Bryan Garcia-Almanza, 25 who recently moved to the 200 block of Cherry Lane in Marietta, was arrested and had his preliminary hearing and arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Michael Hess on Tuesday, May 14, according to court records.

Garcia-Almanza's infant daughter had previously been admitted to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center on February 9, 2024, the Susquehanna Regional Police detailed in the release.

The Lancaster County Children and Youth Services called SRPD about the extent of the infant's injuries. The investigation showed the baby "suffered fractures of five ribs, subdural hemorrhages, and retinal hemorrhages in the right eye," as stated in the police release.

Detectives with the Susquehanna Regional Police Department interviewed both of the infant's parents and "Bryan Garcia-Almanza, admitted to causing the injuries to the child," the police said. Three incidents were specifically mentioned during police interviews, according to court documents obtained by Daily Voice. All three incidents involved "impeding her breathing" and at least one time he shook her, as detailed in the affidavit.

He was charged with five felonies for the following according to his court dockets:

  • Endangering Welfare of Children - Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense
  • Aggravated Assault - Victim Less Than 13 and Defendant 18 or older (two counts).
  • Aggravated Assault - Attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference (two counts).

Garcia and his wife were issued a marriage license on Jan. 26, 2023, according to LNP — less than a year before the alleged abuse began. Court documents list the start of the abuse of the couple's infant as Jan. 14, 2024.

His formal arraignment is set for 9 a.m. on June 14, according to his docket.

He is currently free on $1,000 unsecured bail, as set by Judge Hess.
